On the way to Messina, Sicily (Italy)

The ship is off the coast of Italy, and we'll soon be in the narrow Strait of Messina between Italy and Sicily.

From Wikipedia:  "Messina is the capital of the Italian province of Messina. It is the 3rd largest city on the island of Sicily, and the 13th largest city in Italy, with a population of more than 252,000 inhabitants in the city proper and about 650,000 in the province. It is located near the northeast corner of Sicily, at the Strait of Messina."

My tour today will be of Mt. Etna.  Wikipedia states, "It is the tallest active volcano on the European continent, currently 3,329 m (10,922 ft) high, though this varies with summit eruptions. It is the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps."

Pictures of the my tour will be posted later today.  Let's hope there are no eruptions today!

Our current position at 9am (3am on the East Coast of the USA.

A view of the southern part of the Italian peninsula.

... and another view of southern Italy.

This is Mount Etna.  It's south of Messina and north of Cantania on the map of Sicily.  The tour is scheduled to visit the craters of Silvestri (#2) for a view of the lava flows and Mt. Etna.
