Adelaide, Day 2: A visit to the Barossa Valley

I ventured 90 minutes outside of Adelaide into the Barossa Valley of South Australia.  The area is home to 50 wineries, and I visited four vineyards today.  I had an opportunity to see and hear from vintners, pick and taste varieties of grapes, and sample the end product.

This area of South Australia is beautiful.  Here are a few of my photos below.

We just pulled out of Port Adelaide as I upload these photos, and folks were enjoying wind surfing on the beach.  The ship will take two days at sea in order to reach our next port of call (Albany ,Australia).

The grounds and vineyards of Chateau Barossa were beautiful.  Queen Elizabeth II visited and dedicated their rose garden.

Here's a view of Chateau Barrossa.  This is the first winery that the tour group visited today.

There are many rooms like this in the cellar of Chateau Yaldara.

The Jacob's Creek Visitor Center was impressive and modern.

The Jacob's Creek folks allowed us to pick and taste the grapes of the wine varieties they bottle.

The countryside of the Barossa Valley is so beautiful.  Here is just one field of many owned by Jacob's Creek Winery.

This is Cateau Yaldara.  The group had lunch at Cafe "Y," and the meal was delicious.

The vintners were prepared for our group's arrival at Jacob's Creek.

The final winery we toured by that of Seppeltsfield.  It's an interesting story about how he kept his workers employed during the Great Depression planting palm trees.

It was a beautiful Monday evening as we left the harbor of Port Adelaide.  Folks were enjoying the beach and wind surfing.
