Today, Friday the 13th, was spent in Melbourne,
Australia. I took a city tour, and
Melbourne is truly a land of contrasts.
You see heritage buildings (the term for buildings that date back to the
mid-1800s and the gold rush) and those with modern design. It’s obvious that sports are important, and
the stadiums from the Olympics in the 1950s still play an important part in the
life of the city.
Here are a few of my shots from my trip through the city.
A photo from the Eureka Tower. That's my ship beside the overnight red ferry (leaves daily at 9 PM to go to Tasmania and arrives at 6 AM the next day). |
Another shot from the 89th Floor of the Eureka Tower ... Australians say it's now the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. |
A picture of the city and the Yarra River that runs through the center of the city to Port Philip Bay (harbor). |
You can send mail from the highest post box, too. |
This gives another view of the Eureka Tower. Another taller skyscraper is planned (a casino), but it hasn't been approved at this point because it will cast a shadow on the Shrine of Remembrance. |
This is the Shrine of Remembrance (War Memorial for those lost from Australia) to those who have died in the various wars. |
One more view of the Eureka Tower, and how it compares to others in the Melbourne skyline. This taken from the Shrine of Remembrance. |

The elevator was super fast, and it only took seconds to reach the top. |
