Papeete, Tahiti: Day 2

Last night the ship was entertained by a Polynesian dance troupe that shared history in dance.  This morning I had an early excursion in which I visited several historical points:
  • The James Norman Hall home.  Hall collaborated to write the “Mutiny on the Bounty” series of books.  His son later became an Oscar winning director.  The home is a history to both father and son, and it’s a beautiful ode to the family.
  • Point Venus.  This is the point where most Europeans landed by mooring their ships outside the surrounding reef and using a dingy to come ashore.  The area is popular for surfing, and there was a contest on this rainy morning.
  • The newest overlook, Tahara’a Belvedere, which is beautiful even on a cloudy, rainy morning.  This is, after all, the rainy season in Tahiti.

The museum guide for the home of the author of the Mutiny on the Bounty trilogy is sharing some history of the family.

Hall's office.  It also contains files of edits he made.

The Point Venus Lighthouse is the only lighthouse on Tahiti.  It is the far north of the island.

A cloudy and rainy morning doesn't take away from the beauty of Tahiti.
Surfing was originated by the Tahitians/Polynesians.
