Quito, Ecuador

About 20 folks left the ship this morning at 5:30 AM for the flight to Quito, Ecuador.  It's about a 32 minute flight (or a nine hour drive through the mountains).  Quito is the site where the work was done to determine the location of the equator and the shape of the earth.  I had a chance to stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at the same time by straddling the equator.

Quito is a beautiful city.  This shot was taken from about 10,000 feet above sea level.

One of the city squares.  Note building above, that's where the first shot was taken.

A shot from the street looking up at the Winged Virgin.

The interior courtyard from one of the churches.

The streets of Quito.

The people of Quito are extremely friendly.  Here's a lady trying to make a sale to one of the members of our group.

Here I am at the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo.  I'm standing in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at once.

0 degrees, 0 minutes, 0 seconds ... The equator separates the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
