Antarctic Lectures Begin

The seas aren’t too rough today as the Prisendam moves into the Southern Ocean via the Drake Passage.

There’s a team of three who reached the ship in Argentina.  The individuals will be lecturing on the world of Antarctica.
This morning’s lecture was related to the unique ecosystem of the Antarctic.  The professor is from the University of Queensland in Australia.  It was very interesting and enjoyed by the packed showroom.

We’ll be taking on additional folks once we reach Antarctica tomorrow.

Looking at the world from a different perspective.  The Southern Ocean surrounds Antarctica.  There's a difference in the water (temperature, salinity) and a visible line can be seen from space separating it from the other three oceans.

You better arrive early for the lectures or you'll not get a seat.  They even put up folding chairs to accommodate folks.

The first lecture was standing room only.
Much of life in the Antarctic region is dependent upon this shrimp-like creature called the krill.

Prof. Craig Franklin, University of Queensland (Australia), gave a fascinating talk on the unique ecosystem of the region.
