The Miracle of El Santuario de Chimayo

I have photos of the church at Chimayo, but it wasn’t possible to take pictures inside this Catholic Church.  It was beautiful.  There was no ornate gold like in so many cathedrals and churches, but beautiful paintings of Biblical figures.  These were done in the Southwest style and color scheme.  It was obviously done by those of Native American Culture.

Known as the "Lourdes of America," this tiny chapel and shrine believed to be built on sacred earth with miraculous healing powers.  It is said to be the most visited church in New Mexico.

As I moved around the rooms outside the sanctuary, a family was in one of the rooms. There was a hole with dirt (see photo below). The dirt was blessed and holy. The family of four picked up the dirt and placed it on their legs. This was asking for a blessing related to personal mobility.

I proceeded to another room.  It was filled with crutches of people who said they were healed by the church and this holy dirt.  Pictures lined wall after wall, and all of these people said they had been healed while at the church.

I wasn't able to take photos, but I found these from this website which I'm sharing below.

Crutches left by those saying they had been cured.

Photos were inside and outside the church left by those saying they had been healed.

The dirt is replaced daily for pilgrims hoping to find healing power.
