Arrival in Isafjordur, Iceland

I’m late posting these photos.  Our position within the fjord between two mountains seems to have disrupted internet accessibility.

I’m taking a tour called “Fjords and Flowers.”  The guide says the following about the tour: “Driving among the mountains of Ísafjördur affords an excellent view of the harsh local landscape, where narrow passes across sharp mountain ridges, deep fjords shelter farms and villages huddled on narrow strips of land.  The tour includes a visit to the very first botanical garden in Iceland, which surprised folks by plants growing so far north.”  I’m looking forward to this excursion.

The ship arrived in the Westfjords region of Iceland.  This part of Iceland looks like a lobster.

The Nieuw Statendam sailed into the fjord.

The village of Isafjordur is beautiful from the harbor.

A few fisherman were waiting in the harbor when we arrived.

This ship was able to dock.  The Nieuw Statendam is too large for the port and we went ashore by tender.

Fish farming is important.  I learned that trout and salmon were farmed. Cod is the fish found naturally in the region.

Waterfalls were everywhere in this part of Iceland.

This is where the tender will go ashore.

This smaller cruise ship was able to dock rather than tender ashore.
