A day in Albany, Western Australia

I spent the day in Albany, Australia, and the surrounding sights in this part of Western Australia.  The day started with a visit to the Valley of the Giants.  These are giant old red tingle trees (a form of eucalyptus) that grows only in this part of Western Australia.  The trees are reached by a 600 yard scaffold system so that the roots (which are very shallow) are not damaged.  It goes over 100 feet high off the ground so that you're in the forest canopy.

A quick visit to the beautiful beaches of Wilson Inlet on the Indian Ocean and lunch at a local brewery was next on the agenda.

It was a fast visit to this small western Australian town, but it was truly memorable.

An early morning shot (around 6:30am) as we entered the inlet near Albany, Australia.

This scaffolding system takes you up to the canopy of giant tingle trees (almost as tall as the Redwoods in California)

The scaffolding system protects the roots of the tree which are very sensitive.

I'm glad I'm not afraid of heights!  The scaffold system is a circular track of about 600 yards that eventually reaches of over 100 feet high as you move through the forest.

The beaches of Wilson Inlet were especially beautiful today.

This formation of rocks is known as "the elephants."

Here are the green pools of the inlet which is part of the Indian Ocean.

There were folks diving off the rocks into the sea on this sunny afternoon.

I climbed one of the rocks for this shot.  I would have loved to have taken a dip.

At the restaurant where we had lunch, I caught this bird (I believe it's a type of parrot) taking a rest.

I took this shot at 6pm as we left the area, about 12 hours after we arrived.  After a day at sea, the next stop of the ms Amsterdam is Freemantle/Perth, Australia.
