Mumbai, Day 2

I did a walking tour of Mumbai today.  We covered much of the “heritage precinct” that includes the financial district, a protestant church (a rarity), several government buildings, and the train station where crowded trains arrive every 3 minutes to bring folks into Mumbai from the suburbs to work.

Mumbai is really an assault on all of the five senses.  I wish I could share the sounds and smells of the city.  The constant blowing of horns of cars and motorcycles never ends, and both pleasant and unpleasant odors confront you as you make your way down the streets.
I enjoyed my visit; however, India is not somewhere that I feel requires a return visit for my bucket list to be complete.
Here are a few of my photos today.
Are your documents in order?  We're checked twice before we get out of the parking lot on each tour.

Food vendors provide "fast food" that can be consumed quickly.  Here's a vendor selling buttermilk.

This cow (and two more behind the car) are on the street for folks to feed on the way to work.  A women is selling feed for the cows to passersby.

We went inside the oldest Anglican church built for British soldiers.  Here are the stained glass windows of St. Thomas Cathedral.

Here's the cross outside St. Thomas Cathedral.

Here's the clock tower at Mumbai University.  There's an interesting story as to why it was constructed.

Part of the math and science buildings in the university area of the city.

This was once a proud British hotel, and it is now in a sad state of disrepair.

More street food was being prepared for the lunchtime rush.  Our guide explains the type sandwiches found on this stand.

This is the police headquarters ... we didn't have to pay any bribes today.

Note all the cars.  It's not a parking lot, but just non-rush hour traffic.

Military and police officers are all around.  This officer is outside the Taj hotel near the harbor,.
