A few more photos from Day 1 on the Amazon River

Here are a few more shots from the first day on the Amazon.  Tomorrow the ship will dock in Santarem, Brazil.  I'm taking an excursion to see Santarem and the beach area of Alter do Chao.  There's supposed to be time for swimming in the Amazon at Alter do Chao, but, with the water so high, it may not be possible.

The Amazon is very high, and you can see trees that are underwater.

The occasional barge can be seen.  This one is carrying dirt moving equipment.

You see folks sitting on their porches observing the ship go by.

You can see the difference in the water when a tributary enters the Amazon (the meeting of the waters).

There are some villages along the tributaries.  You can see what looks like a church to the left.

Another tributary enters the Amazon.

These homes have satellite dishes with their modest homes on the river.
