Exploring Fortaleza, Brazil

Fortaleza is a city of contrasts.  The beach areas are filled with expensive high rise hotels and apartments.  You don’t go far before you see high end car dealerships (BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover, etc.).  However, when you enter the city, you see folks sleeping on the streets.  There’s graffiti everywhere with not attempt to control it.  This part of the city is very depressed (and depressing).

Here are a few of my photos of my time in this very large Brazilian city.

After leaving the port's terminal, our first stop was a local craft mall.  I know they were hoping the folks would spend!

Cashews are one of the main products from this part of Brazil.  Also, Brazil nuts come from the north, too.

This catholic church is modeled after Notre Dame in Paris.  It's not very old.

The church was not ornate, but the stained glass windows were impressive.

The next part of the tour was a tour of the theater.  It was named after a famous writer from the area (Jose de Alencar).

The theater included lots of wrought iron railings.  The chairs were cane-woven chairs.

A view of the stage.  Some folks just get in the way when you want to take a nice shot.

The view from the ship of the beach/port area.

This is the port terminal building.  The folks on the ship had to ride buses to it since it was a container port center.
