Shorts and t-shirts are back!

Well, the weather is much warmer (70s) and the sea temperature, according to the captain, is in the mid-60s as the Prisendam moves north.  The passengers will soon be able to go to the beach as part of the shore excursions.  I’ll have a schooner cruise as my first excursion that involves swimming on Feb. 16 in a beach resort area of Brazil.

I’ve attended two lectures on the upcoming ports, and a very interesting lecture on crocodiles.  South America has the largest varieties of crocodiles on the planet.  The lecture was given by a member of the Antarctic team who works as a professor and a researcher at the Steve Irwin Research Facility in Australia.  Professor Craig Franklin was one of the best lecturers and made science so interesting.
I plan for the afternoon to be one of leisure.  My excursion tomorrow includes a walk through the Old Town of Montevideo in the afternoon.

Professor Craig Franklin with Steve Irwin's wife and children.  You'll note the crocodile (that's a small one compared to his photos).

Steve Irwin and Professor Franklin worked together for many years.

Irwin used a team approach to getting a crocodile safe once it was trapped.  Includes folks piling on the back of the crocodile and using the weight of the  humans to freeze it in place.  Three ropes were used the snout and the goal was for it to roll to bind the jaw before the folks jumped onto the back of the crocodile.

His research with tracking device proves that crocs will go home even if moved hundreds of miles.  As a result, nuisance crocs must be euthanized because they'll continue to return home and resume wayward habits.
