Final Port of Call in Spain: Cadiz/Seville

The ship arrived in Cadiz, Spain, at sunrise.  I was soon off to visit Seville, Spain, which is the capital of the Andalusia region.

My tour of Seville included time in the city squares and two very important sites:
Here are a few of my photos from today’s visit.

Beautiful farmland existed between Cadiz and Seville.  The area is famous for vineyards and sherry production.

Narrow streets were the norm, but they opened up to beautiful plazas.

It was Sunday morning in Seville, and the restaurants and shops were opening for the day.

Several young girls were posing for photographers.  I bet it was to commemorate the first communion.

The entry to the Alcazar. It is a royal palace of the Spanish monarchy in Seville, Spain, originally a Moorish fort

A view of the wall that protected the Alcazar.

The entry to the Alcazar is not that impressive.  Just wait until you get inside this Spanish palace!

The tile work in the Alcazar was amazing.

An interior room in the Alcazar Palace.

The gardens were beautiful, too.

More tile work in the Alcazar.

The fountains of the Alcazar were gorgeous.

One view of the Plaza de España.

Folks were taking boat rides and carriage rides on the Plaza de España.

Another view of the massive Plaza de España.

Each region/kingdom of Spain has a section devoted to it on the Plaza de España.

After lunch, we made our way to the Cathedral of Seville.

The remains of Christopher Columbus are contained in this cathedral.  Here's his tomb.

Another view of Columbus' tomb.  Genetic testing was done to support evidence that his remains are contained here.

The main altar of this cathedral, one of the largest in the world, is covered in gold.

The courtyard outside the Cathedral of Seville was beautiful.
