Mariner Appreciation Night: Concert in Ephesus

All of the passengers of the ms Amsterdam were bused to the ruins of ancient Ephesus for a special appreciation concert.  Just think, Paul preached to the pagans of Ephesus until the merchants got him arrested and imprisoned.  Now I'm here in the stands waiting for the program to begin.

It was really special to have this event at the ancient site.  It has been over ten years since the antiquities division has allowed the facility to be used for such an event.

It was a little chilly, but the music kept the spirit warm.

Here are a few of my photos from this special night in Ephesus.

Bus after bus left the ship beginning at 6pm.  We were to take the 20 minute drive to the ruins of  Ephesus.

The sun was setting as I made our way to the hors-d'oeuvre table.

There were folks waiting to welcome the cruisers as we made our way down the walkway to the concert.

Cleopatra and Marc Antony were present along with a few Roman emperors.

Hors-d'oeuvres were being served outside the amphitheater.

I made my way up the marble streets to the Library.

The Library was the location of the many desserts.  It was beautiful in the light of the setting sun.

A Turkish dance group shared a few traditional dances prior to the musical concert.

The Aegean Chamber Orchestra performs and the acoustics of the venue do not disappoint.  The orchestra played one of my favorites:  Piazzola's Liber Tango.  If you've seen "Scent of a Women," then you've heard this tango (Al Pacino dances with a lady he meets in the restaurant) ... it's a great scene and the music is perfect for a final number.

The program of music was incredible, and it was great to be a part of the Mariner Appreciation Night on the 2015 World Cruise.
