On the way home across the Atlantic (with two stops in the Azores)

The ms Amsterdam set sail from Cadiz late yesterday afternoon.  The ship is making its way across the Atlantic for Fort Lauderdale with two stops along the way in the Azores.

The Azores are an autonomous region of Portugal and have volcanic origins.  According to Wikipedia, the Azores are actually some of the tallest mountains on the planet, measured from their base at the bottom of the ocean to their peaks, which thrust high above the surface of the Atlantic.”

Our first stop will be on Wednesday, April 22, in Ponta Delgada. Wikipedia says it “is the largest municipality and administrative capital of the Autonomous Region of the Azores in Portugal. It is located on São Miguel Island, the largest and most populous in the archipelago.”

We will then visit Horta the following day.  Wikipedia says “it is a single municipality and city in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores, encompassing the island of Faial. The city of Horta itself has a population of about 7,000.”

My tours on these islands include “a taste of the Azores” and visiting some of the volcanic crater lakes.

The ship will then continue its journey across the Atlantic to the USA.  We reach the USA at 7am on April 30.  I kind of keep humming the chorus from a John Denver song,

Hey, it's good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long lost friend
Yes, 'n, hey it's good to be back home again”
