Final Day in Scotland: The Isle of Skye

Today’s port, Portee, is on the scenic Isle of Skye.  The trip was by tour bus to Dunvegan Castle was was the stronghold of the Chiefs of the MacLeod family.  The castle and the gardens were built in the 1700s.  It is still the family home of the MacLeods.  Skye was ruled by the MacDonalds and the MacLeods, and they did battle with one another over many generations.

The tour also included views of the Cuillin Mountains; however, the highest peaks were not visible because of the cloud cover today.

Here are a few of my photos from today’s trip.

The final port of call in Scotland is Portee on the Isle of Skye.  The ships leaves for Ireland this afternoon.

Here's the entrance to Dunvegan Castle which was the home of the (chiefs of the) MacLeods.

Here I am on the back garden of the Dunvegan Castle.  It's on the Atlantic Ocean for defensive reasons.

Wealth was distinguished by the gardens you had around your castle.  The climate of this part of Scotland is conducive for plants from all over the world.

Another view around Dunvegan Castle.

Another view of the castle.

The Isle of Skye, with its rolling hills and mountains, is beautiful.

The tour was to include a view of the majestic Cuillin Mountains; however, mother nature was so cooperative.

The view from the village of Portee.  That's the ms Prisendam to the left in the distance.  It's a tender port, and I had to wait for the next boat to the ship.
