The Journey Begins: Leaving The Netherlands for the North Sea

The weather was cloudy and rainy when I arrived in Amsterdam yesterday.  However, it was a beautiful day in the 60s when we set sail.

The modern day version of the windmill is everywhere (including a wind farm along the coast where the ship was docked).

The harbor where we were docked was outside the city of Amsterdam with a very industrial feel.

Officers on the starboard side are helping with our movement away from the dock.

Again it was a cool July day, but that didn't stop folks from enjoying the sand and surf in the harbor area.

I'm sure they had fun surfing.  I hope they had on wet suits for warmth.

We made the short distance from our berth to the open sea.

The ship moved from the safety of the port into the North Sea.

A final look at The Netherlands as we move to open sea.  Next stop (on Day 3 - tomorrow is a sea day) will be Scotland.

Maps always help!
