Invergordon, Scotland: Loch Ness, Water Monsters and Highland Castles

The ship arrived in Invergordon, Scotland, at 7:30am.
Today I got to see Loch Ness.  However, I didn’t see Nessie who is the well-known monster said to inhabit the lake.  Urquhart Castle is on the shores of Loch Ness which is around 800 feet deep.  This area is one of the most picturesque areas in Scotland.

I also saw the city sights of Inverness, Scotland.  A stop meant it was lunchtime at a four-star hotel.  The food was great.
Next stop was the Culloden Battlefield.  This was the last battle on British soil.

Before returning to the ship, the tour included a visit to Cawdor Castle.  The tour included time on the inside as well as the beautiful gardens outside.

Oil rigs dot the area as we enter from the North Sea to Invergordon.

Whisky (it's Wiskey in Ireland) is a big product of Scotland.  Barley is one of the most important crops.

The ship's crew prepares to enter the small port of Invergordon from the wing stations.

I climbed up the tower to take this picture of the Urquhart Castle ruins.

The ruins of the 14th Century Urquhart Castle are situated on the famous Loch Ness.  Nessie was available.

I had lunch at the 4-star Kingsmill Hotel.  The food was delicious.

We visited the Culloden Battlefield.  It is the last battlegrounds on which the British fought in their history.

The tour included time at Cawdor Castle.  We also learned about its disputed ownership (wife #2 vs. the son).

Here I am with the Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness in the background.  Do you see Nessie (the name of the Loch Ness Monster) back there?
