First look at Robinson Crusoe Island

The ship arrived early at the island last night.  The captain had promised we would get there early in order to anchor so everyone could get a good night’s sleep.  The Pacific Ocean hasn’t been so peaceful with a low pressure area causing rocky seas.

I went out this morning to see this idyllic island.  The area is a temperate climate with the temperature in the 60s today.
Here are my first shots of Isla Robinson Crusoe, Chile.  I’m going ashore at 10am to walk the streets and enter the national park.

The view of the island from the ship.

The tender boats are now in position.

Fishing is an important part of the economy, and the men are casting their nets. The spiny lobster is said to be delicious.

That's the main street of the town.  This area has been rebuilt since the tsunami in 2010.

I wonder if these houses were built higher in the hills because of the previous tsunami.
