Shipwreck: The Logos in the Beagle Channel

The Prisendam will soon be out of the Beagle Channel in order to reach Cape Horn.  There have been many disputes between Chile and Argentina over the islands in this part of the world.  There’s a famous shipwreck, The Logos, that wrecked in the channel because there was a dispute as to the nationality of the pilot who would help in navigating the waters.

The Logos is about the size of a football field.  It was owned by a missionary organization "Operation Mobilization." Before sinking in 1988, the ship visited 258 ports in 103 countries. They encouraged local mission workers by providing literature and also opened the ship as a bookstore to nationals.  So, the main cargo was religious literature including Bibles.

Ownership of this and other small islands in the Beagle Channel have been disputed by Chile and Argentina.

The Logos was a cargo ship about the size of a football field.

The ship sailed without a local pilot to navigate because they couldn't determine the nationality of a pilot (Chilean or Argentinian?).

The ship sank during a storm in 1988.
