Travel day from Cuzco to Lima to General San Martin, Peru

Yesterday was a travel day.  The group left the hotel for the Cuzco airport.  We had a slight delay in the flight, so we were a little late in arriving in Lima.

The group then met up with the bus for our trip along the Pan American Highway.  Chile’s landscape isn’t very varied along the route.  We saw the coast and the wonderful beach resorts in southern Peru.  The landscape transforms from desert to farm fields when a stream exists.
We had a very late lunch.  The bus deviated for an interesting drive into the rural reaches of Peru.  Dirt roads, paved narrow roads, farm fields, and narrow lanes were required to get to a Peruvian hacienda for our lunch of traditional Peruvians foods.  The hacienda for beautiful, but the food was an adventure.  The dessert was a donut type dough with squash and a sweet syrup.

After lunch, we boarded to learn that the bus would have to return the same route we had come from the Pan American Highway.  A local bridge was out, and we went by it.  Dirt was placed in front to prevent entry, but the local kids were playing on the bridge.  We retraced this route and returned to the modern Pan American Highway.
We moved along for about another hour until we reach San Martin, Peru.  Our ship was waiting on us.  They had prepared to leave, but greeted us with folks to take our luggage and a glass of champagne for the sail away.

Our time changed last night, and the ship is an hour ahead of our time at home.  So, I stayed in bed this morning until 10am to recover from this wonderful excursion in the beautiful country of Peru.
A few of my photos (out of order) that I had to take with my phone (cameras were stowed away in the luggage compartment of the bus).

Bougainvillea cover the walls of the stone wall surrounding the hacienda.

A traditional Spanish/Peruvian hacienda was the location for our late lunch.

The family chapel at the hacienda.

The backyard of the hacienda.

The living room of the hacienda.

The staff set up our lunch on one of the side porches.  The dough frying station was popular (although it contained squash).

A beach resort area of Lima as the bus took the ramp to the Pan American Highway.

Desert and homes along the beach was one of the things I observed on my side of the bus.

Here's the expansive front porch  of the hacienda.

One last look at the gardens of the hacienda as I made my way back to the bus.
